El Salvador – Sunday, Feb 16

16 February, 2014 at 1:50 pm

We went to the my family’s old coffee plantation, San Antonio El Quequeisque, escorted by my friend Federico Samayoa.  Many questions and much interest.
Drove farther up the volcano to La Pampa restaurant – one of the fancier restaurants with fantastic views.  After that, to the top of the volcano to El Bocaron, to look way down into the crater which fascinated every one.
As our agenda moved happily slower than anticipated, we did not get to go to Juayua, but everyone was satisfied with a great day.

We have sucsessfully arrived in El Salvador – picking up our last team member tonight at the Airport.

Today was a day of team building and getting aquainted as our team consists of Firefighters from Delta, Mission, Lion’s Bay, Nanaimo, Coquitlam, Vancouver and Whitehorse Fire Departments. Also on our team, of course, is Jeffrey Moore, Honourary Consul of El Salvador – our team’s very important Logistics co-cordinator!

El Salvador – Saturday, Feb 15

15 February, 2014 at 1:49 pm

Went to the CBES cuartel to give the team a tour and to make sure the equipment we requested was ready for Monday.  All was as requested.  Ana Cena and Oti were wonderful supporters and together, made sure that everything flowed as it should.  We found out that Abner Hurtado is retiring next month and he will be replaced with the very capable and supportive Sub-Director Joaquin Parada.  As all was good at the cuartel, we went for the rest of the day and evening to El Toonco beach for sunning, swimming and getting to know each other.  Some of us went for massages. We all walked on the main boardwalk in La Libertad and explored the fish market on the pier, and had dinner at the Punta Roca restaurant as we have done almost every time.
