El Salvador – Day one

15 February, 2014 at 10:43 pm

We have sucsessfully arrived in El Salvador – picking up our last team member tonight at the Airport.

Today was a day of team building and getting aquainted as our team consists of Firefighters from Delta, Mission, Lion’s Bay, Nanaimo, Coquitlam, Vancouver and Whitehorse Fire Departments. Also on our team, of course, is Jeffrey Moore, Honourary Consul of El Salvador – our team’s very important Logistics co-cordinator!

This morning we toured the Main Fire Station in San Salvador – Head Quarters and Dispatch for the Country’s 16 Fire Stations. It is at this location we will be evaluating and certifying, through JIBC, 22 Bomberos at the Basic Firefighter Certification Level.

After the tour, we spent the afternoon at Playa El Tunco where some of the team tried out their surfing skills.

Tomorrow is a new day with new adventures including a coffee plantation and a volcano…
